Founder and CEO : Dr Ntuthuko Bhengu

Dr Ntuthuko Bhengu is the founder of Alchemy Health Technologies (Pty) Ltd, a National Planning Commissioner (South Africa) and a director of companies. He was a panelist of the Health Market Inquiry which was set up by the Competition Commission to probe the private health sector holistically to determine factors that restrict, prevent or distort competition and underline increases in private healthcare prices and expenditure.

A Chartered Director (SA) with many years' experience,
Dr Bhengu's past board experience includes terms as a board and advisory committee member of Nestle (SA) (Pty) Ltd, the SA Nuclear Energy Corporation (NECSA) and the Road Accident Fund. In 2017, he was elected to serve as a non-executive director of the Institute of Directors in South Africa and chaired the Certifications Committee of the board.


Dr Bhengu obtained the MB, ChB degree from Natal University and the Diploma in Anaesthetics from the College of Medicine of SA. His business management qualifications include MBA (Wales, Cardiff) and MPH Healthcare Management (Harvard) degrees.
The Harvard degree gave him an in-depth understanding of global health policy and management of corporations in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, hospital and health insurance sectors. Dr Bhengu has operated as a clinician in South Africa and England and as a senior executive within the SA healthcare sector.

Dr Bhengu has participated as an invited speaker at the Africa Business Conferences for the Imperial College (UK, 2016) and Harvard Business Schools (USA, 2017). He also delivered a keynote address at the Africa Directors Programme offered by the Stellenbosch and INSEAD business schools (SA, 2017). In March 2018, Dr Bhengu was invited by the Harvard Global Health Institute to participate as a speaker at the London (UK) workshop on counterfeit and substandard medicines. The theme of the meeting was, "Medicines that Lie: A Deadly Public Health Crisis."
